Log 3

This week we performed a preliminary play test of our first prototype. We are working on fine tuning game balance and difficulty to ensure we have an engaging play experience.

Currently, we are working on creating an updated version of our game board as well as updated designs for our SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Cards. These cards draw inspiration directly form the UN's website and will be utilized throughout our game. Using the colors that were assigned to the SDGs and recreating the logos using vector art was the best way to make sure that the game looks like a high fidelity prototype while connecting it back to the real goals.

We want to ensure that our game stands out from Magnitude, which we are drawing inspiration from (Image of Magnitude game board can be found above in this post as well). To preface, this is still a work in progress and a handful of the art elements do not reflect the final iteration of the game components. The game board uses the SDGs color scheme to help create the board's color pallet. This can be seen on the edge of the board and the area in which the 3 levels of the SDGs will go before you buy and invest in them. We also made sure to put the logo and name  on the board so people can start to recognize them if they see the logos in their daily life.

We also changed the board to accommodate a reduced scope in the UN goals (6x SDGs to 8x MDGs). So instead of an octagon separating the cards, it's a hexagon. Then there are 4 spots with the DRM, which will be labeled as RPs (Risk Prevention) in a future iteration. Each one of these spots will be filled with 4 cards from the UNDRR (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction). These are nicely placed in 4 categories: "Reduce Underlying Risk Factors", "Build Resilience", "Enhance Risk Assessment", and "Prioritize Risk Reduction". These will then help protect the development of SDGs from the Event cards that will happen every year (end of the round).

The idea this week is to continue to work and hold a play testing session before we commit to our final version of this game for the academic session.
